Sequence class
peptide
Molecular formula
C32H49N9O5
Appearance
White to off-white lyophilized powder.
Solubility
Hydrophilic. SS-31 is highly soluble in aqueous solutions. For reconstitution, dissolve in sterile water or phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) at pH 7.0-7.4 to a concentration of up to 10 mg/mL. Solutions should be prepared fresh for optimal activity; avoid prolonged storage in solution, especially at room temperature.
Mechanism record
SS-31 (Elamipretide, D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH₂) is a mitochondria-targeted 4-residue chemical sequence with a D-amino acid modification enhancing protease resistance. It selectively binds cardiolipin on the inner mitochondrial membrane, stabilizing cytochrome c electron transport chain interactions, reducing mitochondrial ROS generation, and preventing cardiolipin peroxidation. In clinical trials for Barth syndrome (40mg SC daily).
Half-life record

Recorded receptors

  • Cardiolipin (inner mito membrane)
  • cytochrome c stabilizer
